Prada was founded by Mario Prada in 1913 and was originally called "Prada Brothers". Mario designed and made leather goods such as handbags, shoes and suitcases.

When Mario's granddaughter took over the leather goods company in 1978, the business was struggling. She was a former mime with a PhD in political science. Despite her lack of fashion qualification she remodel the Prada company in to one of the most reputable fashion brands in the universe.
